Intro to Mahjong: Mahjong 101 & 102
Curious about Mahjong? Join us for a fun, beginner-friendly two-part class designed to introduce you to this engaging and social tile game. This class meets on Wednesday, July 29 from 10am to 3pm. Lunch will be provided for the group.
Mahjong 101 begins with the basics. You’ll learn the goal of the game, become familiar with the Mahjong tiles, and explore the 2026 National Mahjong League card in depth. We’ll also practice building possible hands (“practice lines”) so you can start recognizing winning combinations. Time permitting, we’ll briefly introduce setting up a game and dealing the tiles.
Mahjong 102 starts with a quick review before moving into gameplay. You’ll learn key elements of American Mahjong including the Charleston, drawing and discarding, exposures, and how to use jokers. The session will conclude with guided gameplay, giving you the chance to practice what you’ve learned with instructor support.
By the end of the series, you’ll have the knowledge and confidence to sit down and enjoy a game of Mahjong with friends.
