Free Weekly American Mahjong Play @ the Community Center

Goal: The goal of the weekly American Mahjong open play time is for it to be a relaxed, fun and enjoyable experience for all participants. The games to be fun and friendly - and not highly competitive.

When: Weekly on Fridays, beginning on February 20th through April 27th, 2026

Time: 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Where: Holland Charter Township Community Center

Looking to participate? Make sure you sign up online by Thursday at 12pm each week for Friday’s play. No drop-in's please. This helps us determine the number of Mahjong sets needed.

Knowledge and Supply Requirements:

1) Open to experienced players who have a good understanding of NMJL rules and game play.

2) Please, no beginners! Are you new to Mahjong and want to learn more to play? Email the Community Center and let them know you are interested in Mahjong lessons. Mahjong lessons will be offered in the near future.

3) We will follow NMJL (National Mahjong League) rules for this Open Play. This means we will use the annual NMJL card, 152 tiles, with no use of blank tiles or extra jokers.

4) Players must bring their own 2025 NMJL card, with the new 2026 card to be used beginning in April as the new cards arrive.

5) We will need some players to bring tiles, racks, and mats each week, depending on the number of players who have signed up for that week.

6) We will have a host at each Open Play event who will get everyone checked in, set up that day’s teams, and ensure that the rules are being followed.

Other Miscellaneous Information:
1) The weekly Mahjong play at the Community Center will not be playing for points or for money.

2) We will draw cards to determine teams, so this will mean that you may be playing with others you do not know. This is a great way to get to know other players and to form new friendships! The hosts will have the NMJL Rules Booklet with them at each event to provide the answers if a rules question comes up where clarification is needed.
